Our RanchCaballos De BBC, LLC is a Peruvian Paso Horse ranch located in the Sonoran Desert about 20 miles west of downtown Phoenix, Arizona. At an elevation of about 1000 feet above sea level we have very hot summers and mild winters. With this weather and an average rainfall of only 7 inches per year, irrigation is needed to maintain pastures. However, with irrigation we are able to maintain pasture year round, growing Bermuda grass in the summer and rye grass in the winter. Half of our four plus acre ranch is devoted to six permanent pastures. Having pastures where we can turn our horses out to graze with their buddies has been very important to us.
The balance of the property is devoted to our: house; garage, shop and car port; equipment building and shavings storage bin; feed and tack rooms; hay barn and pellet storage bin; arena; round pen; wash rack; hot walker; and 24 covered shed row horse stalls. It took lots of careful planning to get all of that onto the remaining 2 acres.
After boarding our horses for fourteen years, we looked forward to owning our own ranch upon Bill’s retirement in 2002. After several years of looking around the West for a suitable place we finally found what we wanted close to home. It turned out to be much more difficult to find irrigated land in a size and location we could afford than we expected. We purchased the property before Bill retired and began the process of adding all of the horse furnishing that we needed. Fortunately the property already had the house, garage, shop and car port. By September of 2003 we had everything in place so that we could move our horses to their new home. If you are ever planning to be in our area, please call or email us in advance and make an appointment to visit our ranch. We would be delighted to show it to you. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Bill and Becky Chase |
